Job Title: Instructional Assistant for English Language Learners

Reports to: Classroom teacher, ELL Representative and/or building principal
Length of Work: 20 hours per week during the school day
Job Goals
- To provide assistance to teachers and students in the English Language Learner (ELL) program, by helping students to become proficient in speaking, reading, writing and comprehending English and supporting overall program needs.
Essential Functions
- Assists classroom teacher(s) and the ELL Representative in providing specially designed programs for ELL students in language arts and content areas that will help to develop communication and other skills necessary for success in the regular classroom setting and in life situations.
- Works under the direct supervision of a Highly Qualified Teacher. Works in close proximity to the teacher and has frequent contact with the teacher.
- Works under the direct supervision of the school’s ELL representative in the areas of program documentation and parent involvement.
- Prepares and maintains written documentation as noted in the district ELL plan.
- Implements a detailed lesson plan developed by the classroom teacher.
- Works in cooperation with the school’s ELL representative in establishing good ELL teaching strategies for meeting the individual needs of ELL students.
- Assists the classroom teacher in evaluating the achievement of the students.
- Assists the classroom teacher in communicating ELL students’ progress to students and parents.
- Cooperates with supportive services personnel in meeting special needs of ELL students.
- Any other duties as deemed by their supervisor.

Educational and/or Experience Requirements: High School diploma.
Physical Demands: The individual must be able to meet the physical demands necessary to meet the educational needs of students. For instance, if a child is disabled and requires certain physical abilities of the instructional assistant (e.g., getting in and out of wheel chair), the instructional assistant must be able to meet the needs of the student.
